I think the wider point is about more than just booing
Of course, players have always been booed, sometimes more justifiably than others. I think the difference is why fans are booing. Back in the late 90s/early 00s, we had some pretty s**t players who performed poorly, so naturally some of them got booed. But equally, expectation levels were pretty low by that point with us ambling along towards mid-table obscurity most seasons.
The way I read it, the author was saying that there's been a dramatic change in mindset since the 2004 promotion season because fans are no longer booing purely because of poor performances, but because there's an sense that Norwich are entitled to better. When I started going to matches in the 90s, I never remember fans booing just because we were losing at HT. Yet now it seems the norm, even against pretty similar level teams in the PL in the last couple of seasons, as if fans have a right to expect to win every single game. I hear a lot more booing now than ever before at CR, even though the club is arguably in a more secure position than it ever has been and is in the midst of a pretty exciting promotion race.
I'm sure this is also linked with the wider question of the attitude of modern football fans and ticket prices etc., but I agree that in the last decade CR has become a much less pleasant environment in which to watch football, in spite of our apparent progress as a club.
