for all the reasons you've said
If you put ?2 on something, and you take ?3 instead of the ?10 outcome, you'll probably lose 7 ?2 bets at 4/1 before you win. So you've lost ?14 to win ?10. If you constantly take the ?3 cash on 7 bets, you've only won ?7, but you're not ?4 quid down and on a streak of losing a lot
If you always feel like something is coming back, or at the collect window, you're confident and focussed not to be silly
