Well...
Imagine this...
Opponent (Cambridge in this case) has 4th and 12 at Norwich 30 yard line (no decent kicker so they go for it). QB overthrows receiver so it sits up nicely for me at Norwich's 10 yard line. However, since he has overthrown him, the WR is sitting right in front of me. If I catch it, chances are I get tackled and we get the ball at our own 10 yard line. If I just knock it to the floor it's incomplete, and as it was 4th down we take over possession at our own 30 yard line.
All about field position innit.
