why is 4th down bad time to intercept ball?

bad time to try to intercept ball but drop it, I can see that. But presumably still a good time to actually catch the bugg*r and run for a few yards?

(I've been watching a bit of yankeggchasing recently, for the first time in ages. Have remembered what a good sport it is.)
