So how much of Ashton's transfer fee would Worthy get to spend?
The headline fee when we signed Ashton was ?3M, rising to ?4M based on appearances etc. We paid ?1.25M up front, and paid another ?1.25M this summer from the parachute payments. He has made just over 50 appearances for Norwich which has probably triggered some of the appearance money, lets say ?0.5M.
So we paid just under 40% up front. Very few clubs are in a position to pay a fee of around ?7M in one go. So working on a similar basis on a ?7M transfer just under 40% equates to about ?2.5M. Crewe will want their 20% of the profit, around ?800K, leaving Worthy just ?1.7M to spend in January. Probably enough to buy Davenport and a striker from the lower leagues, Eastwood for example.
Is this good business, not from where I'm sitting.

- No, imo, in order for the team not to be weakened.................. (NCFC) - The Duke of Norfolk, Dec 29, 21:39:49
