Oh right. So does that mean they belong to our region

I think not. Does the Parachute Regiment belong to Colchester or The RAF Regiment belong to Bury St Edmunds? I could go on.

Fact is, especially when it comes to the RAF, that bases are located in East Anglia purely for logistical reasons. Many of those serving on these bases have no affinity to East Anglia.

You go wherever you are sent. The only difference is tradition Army regiments that recruit in specific areas for example the Royal Anglian Regiment who tend to be based in said areas. It doesn't mean they belong to that region.

The clue is in the Royal bit. Royal Air Force, Royal Navy. The Army has the Royal bit in it's individual Regiments. This means they belong to the whole of the United Kingdom.
