Well...
Log-in to the BT website to check the old email account. Look at the sent email folder to see what has been sent from there. Also change the passwords.
It is unlikely but not impossible that any spam has been sent from there.
Most likely is that a spammer has simply put your email in their return address so it may appear the emails come from you but are not really coming from your email account.
