some stats monster ought to do some simple analysis of this
ie, does a recent or longer term record against a club actually have any statistical power in predicting the next result against them? Or is it all nonsense?
(And having a long losing record against a particular team doesn't prove anything. Given we play lots of teams, you'd expect us to have a run of defeats against one or two of them, a run of wins against one or two, and a mixture against most. Just out of randomness.)
Anyways, I'm not going to do this, but some statgeek ought to. Or maybe they have.
