surely at any tournement held in a single country nearly all the games don't involve the host nation's team. How is this any different?
And the distance for travelling from one side of Europe to the other are no greater than the distances in travelling from one side of Brazil to the other, or in the USA for example. Geographically it isn't really an issue.
