While undoubtedly true, it would go against the idea of constituency MPs

Voters elect an individual who is allied with a particularly party, not the party itself. So while it would certainly be fair to give voters another chance to express their choice of individual given the new party alignment, it would contradict the basis of the system to make it compulsory.

That said, in the case of Clacton, I'd be surprised if the Tories retake the seat. A political scientist who's recently written a whole book about Ukip's rise was just saying on Twitter that Clacton is the perfect constituency for Ukip, given the demographics.
