I think it was more that we were involved in an entertaining game (that's been incredibly rare in big tournaments) rather than many people really thinking we were any good.
We're still crap, but at least we're now reasonaly entertaining crap who have a go (albeit obviously rather ineptly). As a viewer I at least consider that progress - I haven't felt as though I've wasted two hours of my life after each England game this time around.
