Lambert certainly had it.

Back to back promotions, exciting football. Raised the club from the doldrums.

If you also equate success as finishing in mid table thanks to a fortunate final day victory and being relegated the season after having spent record amounts of money whilst making supporters endure dire football then then yes he was successful.
