Exactly, we had players that could actually hold on to the ball too though

I think probably Bowen, Crook and Culverhouse made the late 80s/early90's teams. All helped by having a decent striker too. The fact that phelan, sherwood and townsend all moved on yet we hardly lost anything suggests they were less important than those players we held on to. The huff and puff to crook's skills but being english football, energy and tackling were/is placed higher than technique and vision.
