The first half at Watford was one of the worst - if not the worst - 45 minutes of football I have ever seen us play, and Hughes was the most ineffectual player on our team. There were people there who didn't even realise he was playing - it was dismal.

I assume you're alluding to some sort of 'steel' that Hughes provides us that was absent v Derby and Wolves. Although it's probably more telling that Safri didn't play in either of those games, either.

Brighton was very telling - the way our midfield collapsed in the 2nd half when Safri went off was quite alarming. Hughes was nowhere near good enough even to break up their midfield.
