in most clubs abroad the manager role doesn't exist...1st team affairs are the job
of the head coach. Their job is to get the team playing the way the DoF sets out.
In an ideal situation the head coach and DoF decide together which players are needed and transfers are a mutual decision but like anything else there are extremes of the systems.
However, with more british club managers taking a less hands-on role in day to day activities they become more like DoF but pitch up at the weekends to wave and shout on the touchline.
