I wouldnt disagree with that

The fact they are two match winners on their day make it nigh on impossible to leave either of them out.

I wouldn't for one minute suggest the Butt/Scholes partnership was better, but the two players knew what their roles were (as someone has already mentioned) and if the current two did we would potentially have the best central pairing in the world (if not the most technically gifted).

The ideal plan would be for Gerrard to do the majority of the defensive work as Lampard is at his best when allowed to push forward and offer support when it is needed. What we don't want is our defence getting exposed from both pushing forward or no support to the front men as they both decide to stay back.
