I remember it was largely ridiculed at the time though. I still think with a bit of confidence, he could turn into a competent player - maybe capable of getting 7-8 goals a season in the Prem, 15 or so in the Champ. He's miles from that level at the moment though.

Signing a decent Prem striker seems to be very tough. In the last couple of years, there haven't been many signed for less than 10m that have been any good. Kone, Michu, Benteke, Rodriguez, Bony (though he cost slightly more), possibly Long. The list of failures is much longer...

Cornelius, RvW, Altidore, Osvaldo, Cisse, Kozak, Mitroglu, Borini, Aspas, Soldado, Anichebe... have all been complete flops so far.
