Really it depends what you want to spend. As a former Canon user I'd recommend them and say something like a 70D. For your budget though you won't really get much. The 70D has a lot of decent features that would be handy and certainly enable you to use some good quality lenses. As GOBB said before, spend your money on glass.

You will probably find a better price elsewhere than on the link I've provided. I just used it to show you the features. You'd have to ask someone UK based though as I'm not familiar with the best places these days.
