Lot of it comes down to basic personality, fear of failure

Unfortunately we appear to have a majority of players with that personality. It's why Hughton is the absolute worst kind of manager for this group of players. His motivational techniques appear to have no effect on this group. You need either a Lambert type who motivates with positivity or a Keane type who motivates with fear.
