I presume that Wes's official transfer request came after a meeting with McNally because

the former asked for a contract extension and the latter wouldn't give him one. Seems that Villa will offer two and a half years and he only has 18 months left with us.

From the player's point of view, I don't think this is about Hughton or Lambert - it's about security.
