re: Damien Francis

I can totally understand some of the discussion about Damien Francis in here lately. However I have read with amazement words like 'hate' being used by City fans to describe Francis lately. This is just so over the top it is unbelievable.

Can I first say that I have been as disappointed as everyone else with Damo's form over the last month - which scarcely compares to his early season form. His display vs Fulham was very poor and I was angry at the time but in the cold light of day he was not the only one was he? But what exactly are SOME people on here trying to achieve by turning him into such a villified figure of hate?

He may well have had his head turned by another club, something hasn't been right, but let's get a few things straight here.
We simply cannot ignore his form over the first 3 months of the season when he did as much as anyone to prevent us being humiliatingly marrooned at the foot of the table. He has also proved that when his head is right he is one of the most outstanding goalscoring midfielders in the country, you cannot accidently score 7 goals in 13 games in the Prem.
He has also had his moments lately: the surge to set up Ashton vs Palace and Soton, unlucky with 2 shots vs Bolton, and don't forget he was still part of the team which turned it around at the end of the season.

OK so he may leave, but if by some chance he is still here in August we must accept him back into our hearts and try to get the best back out of a player that we know can be so good. If we are serious about going straight back up then we must keep our greatest assets of which Francis certainly is still one. Get used to winning a few games next year and all will be rosy, and let's face it if he really wants a move he will have to be playing well for us.
How many goal scoring midfielders are there really about? Who are we actually gonna replace him with in the Fizzy? The last prolific midfielder I can remember for us was Andy Johnson - almost 10 years ago.
Let's not destroy this one guys.
