I did see a no-offsides game once

Or it might have been no-offsides from a free kick or a pass from your own half. I?m not really sure. I do recall going to see a game at Barnet with my Dad years ago when this was trialled and from free kicks there were many balls just lobbed into the box, Pulis style. No idea if it was pre-season or it was just tried at non-league level for a while..

I did play in the first season of no-offsides at hockey and it was strange, there were a load of long passes and plenty of goal hanging going on. It took a while to settle down as players/coaches and umpires got used to how the games were played.

Although the ball can be played in the air for both sports, in hockey the ball has to be played into space and only the defender can take it in the air facing the ball (assuming he has his back to his goal), the attacker must stay 3(?) metres away. Safety is the big issue.
