with one more striker we'd have had one less midfielder

and maybe less service to the those strikers. It doesn't neccessarily follow that just adding more attacking players improves things. Hughton made an attacking sustitution at Arsenal and we hardly had another attack. I am well aware that was Arsenal and not Cardiff but it doesn't automatically follow that 2 strikers increases your chance if scoring (why do so few teams go that route these days?).
