Know what you mean, although
playing Carrick and Smalling/Jones + the front 4 brings with it its own risks.
Danger is that you end up with big gaps behind the 4 strikers / wingers, if Carrick sits more and Smalling (or Jones, if he's preferred) doesn't get forward. So we end up short of possession and vulnerable.
