I don't think you can go wrong with Specialized and

the best place to buy it is definitely Streetlife just off Dereham Road. Speak to Alex or Tim. Both know their stuff and customer services are second to none. I know this is kinda like stating the bleedin' obvious but spend as much as you can because a good quality bike is a joy to ride. People buy their kids ?80 mountain bikes and they're so damned heavy and unresponsive that the kid gets tired in no time at all and fed up with cycling. Hope it helps.
