might not be possible depending on elderly relatives or kids etc but worth thinking about. you could start off up at buckingham palace, walk down through st james park to trafalgar square, then go past downing street and to big ben, cross the bridge and wander along the south bank all the way down to tower bridge (which would take you past the london eye, all the arty stuff at the south bank centre, tate modern, the globe, borough market, the shard etc. lots of shops/pubs/galleries along the way
