a fair bit
Just about to head out, but I can answer more questions another day:
I didn't smoke for as long/much as you, but I wouldn't knock the vaping forums too much, lots of different experiences there - ukvapers is a good one. You can post questions etc, they are new user friendly.
Basically, if you're happy to invest in decent kit, I started off with an e-cigarette kit, but the batteries are so weedy and the cartridges can be expensive. I've now got an Apollo VV battery x2 and a Kanger Protank (i.e. more of a vaporiser). I just fill it up with whatever strength/flavour e-liquid. Whole setup was about 70 quid though.
I think the reason people go on and on about the flavours is that most people start off with the tobacco substitute and move on to something different. It's difficult to explain, but they are actually very nice.
I also like gadgets, but I can understand that it's not for everyone. I'd definitely say that the e-cigarette types are just the mass-market, cheapy ones though, but getting the proper kit is difficult without a few hours of research. Nevertheless, I think either may help you and it's almost certainly not as bad for your health as smoking traditionally.
