Provided the economy doesn't tank between now and then, they'll have done just enough to still be able to campaign successfully on the 'you can't trust Labour not get us back into debt'.
It'll be the election after this one that Labour win with a landlside, once people feel prosperous again and have forgotten about the recession.
Labour might have the right policies and principles at the moment, and have an open goal in terms of the Coalition, but all the Tories have to do is say "Great idea, Ed. But where's the money coming from? There was none left after you lot were last in power."
As most voters are pretty self-interested, I think the Tory message will play well enough to get them back in power (albeit still in coalition).
