Making sure that your LinkedIn profile is bang up to date etc - that'll be your mini CV. You can sometimes track their HR people down or spot advertised jobs through the company profile, and you can make it known to him discretely that you're on the hunt for a better job.

Blow smoke up his arse re the work you've done together through your work email, but do the actual sniffing for jobs through LinkedIn or your personal email (and on lunchbreaks etc).

Your company might not care, but there's no sense in giving an arsey boss ammunition to make your life difficult.
