I feel sorry for Doncaster. I am quite sure that if he was given a free hand (or even any

thing less than being the human shield that was his SPL role), he could improve the lot of Scottish football and the clubs.

Trouble is, the club chairmen don't want a chief executive; they want a secretary, who will act on their whims.
