To be honest, most of it is because the US media is so omni-present, and the US has a huge

presence on the internet too, and therefore every single moment is filled with the news or rumours of any such event should it occur in the US. Doesn't make it any more or less important if an 8 year old kid dies in Afghanistan or Boston, but I guess it can make some feel as though the "world" cares more about Americans than Iraqis for example.

And yes, there was a lot of funding for the IRA in the US and I suspect largely through ignorance. The same for some people who fund other terrorist groups. It's easy to champion a cause for which you don't have to see the results first hand.

But it wasn't only in the US. I even remember a story about fruit machines at a well known Norwich taxi office being removed because it turned out that the company leasing them was donating the profits to the IRA (unbeknownst to the taxi firm I might add - they got rid as soon as they found out). Foo yare agew mind.
