are we definitely behind La Liga?
Barca maybe (but they're an exception). Real Madrid were a bit fortunate to beat Man U. Those two are a cut above the rest of La Liga in a way that our CL generally teams aren't.
Malaga are still in the CL but to be honest I'd have fancied any of our 4 teams in the competition to beat them over 2 legs.
Sometimes in a cup competition it comes down to the luck of the draw or the odd decision here and there. Our teams got tough draws this year. It happens.
We have 3 teams left in the Europa League to La Liga's none (usually this is the other way round and used as an argument against the Premier League).
