What you need to look at is the amount bet each and every spin compared to the amount paid out each and every spin, this gives you the 97.3%. If you put ?100 into the machine and only bet ?100 in total during your entire session then you can expect to cash out 97.3% of ?100 on average, the minute your bets go over that ?100 you can no longer expect to cash out 97.3%.

The 97.3% does not refer to your buy in or you cash out, it refers to the amount you have bet in relation to the amount that has been RETURNED to you as a PLAYER each spin.
