This is going to sound slightly ridiculous

However I think some of it stems from my mum coming from the Isle of Wight. (YES I KNOW, A FEW MILES FROM THE MAINLAND!)

But there is a curious sense of isolation there; of being self contained. I absolutely love that and, like the Falklands I suppose, there is actually an almost romantic and somewhat dated Britishness about the place.

So in some ways, the distance is irrelevant - it's about the separateness of communities and how generations evolve.
