His self-delusion and arrogance

While some of the things he stood up for were valid (the sheer brutality of Thatcher's plans to shut so many mines, so fast, with few alternative jobs to help those being made unemployed), his self-delusion and self-image as some kind of great socialist/leftist leader got in the way, meaning that he picked the wrong fight and got his tactics all wrong.

So while standing up to Thatch was the right thing, he was an idiot? and people in Yorkshire, South Wales, parts of Notts etc are still feeling the consequences. For that anyone on the left should be annoyed - I know I am.

On the plus side, his choice of "shredded wheat" hair was inspired. It looked ridiculous, but it was iconic.
