People get over it and (in a hushed voice) it can actually work out quite well in further developing an identity and exploiting it commercially.
There was much grumbling amongst the yokels at Gloucester RFC when the historic badge was changed to some gopping modern outrage that could be trademarked*. However many years later, the world still hasn't ended...
(*I think we were also supposed to get a new nickname, but it sounded even more w**k than Cardiff Dragons so it was dropped).
