Franchise football at its worst (apologies if WW2)
Just discussing the Cardiff situation with a mate of mine (a Cardiff fan) and she's disgusted about the proposed name change to "Cardiff Dragons". Apart from sounding terrible (and, for the record, aren't the regional rugby union team called that?), it's so needless - an example of modern-day "franchise football" at its worst. While living in Bristol I have little love for Cardiff City, I do feel a bit sorry for their fans (or at least the ones who aren't obnoxious hooligans, and I know a few).
I mean, how outraged would be all be if Delia, MWJ and McNasty decided to call us "Norwich Dumplings" or even just "Norwich Canaries"? Clearly, we wouldn't be happy, and with good reason.
That Malaysian owner they have sounds like a right tool.
