It's obvious lambert joined villa by mistake. He never wanted to go there, it was just the outcome of 2 over inflated egos.
Villa asked McNally permission to speak to PL, McNally refused, PL took this as someone else making career defining decisions for him and got the hump, McNally raised the ante in the ball bouncing stakes and it all escalated to the point of PL's 'i'll show show ye's' reaction.
It was all just an unfortunate sequence of ego clashes
