I regularly have the same problem
also having it on my brand new pc. Firefox uses gargantuan amounts of memory and there's little you can do about it from what I've read.
I suppose you just have to make sure you have enough ram to cope or use a different browser, though all of them tend to use large amounts, especially if you've got hundreds of tabs open
