in addition to the self-less determination of every single athlete, there has been an unprecedented load of cash thrown towards sport over the last few years to ensure success at these games. As you say, it just shows what can be achieved when things are done correctly.
To be honest, I'm really only going to Fulham next week because I get to enjoy a right old piss-up with good people I only get to see a few times a year. Whilst I'm still passionate, the game is really more of a sideshow for me these days. Well at least until 2.55pm next Saturday. Its like being born with a limp.
