the big difference is....

the culture/identity between sports like rugby/football etc, and "individualist sports" like some cycling, tennis, swimming, atheltics etc....

footbal and rugby clubs have deep set roots in communities.... something generations of families are grown up to support.....very tribal. The w**ky over-paid footballers are not "our clubs", they are just individuals whol spend a short time at "our clubs". Ie, I've supported City since aout the age of 10, I'm now 43......Thats about 3-4 times longer than the longest seving player I can remember (probably kevin keelan) - so players come and go physically, but also in our memory.

Sporting individuals like Wiggo, Ennis, Murray etc are much harder to identify with, compared to the culture of growing up around a footy club.

So, sadly, despite the footballing world being full of what seems like over paid idiots, its the club and lifestyle of supporting them we love....the players just come and go. We'll all be back to footbal come august the 18th.
