Question

Re that phenomenon Hunter Davies wrote about yesterday. The way in which the efforts, selflessness and appeal of our Olympians cast a new light on the general unattractiveness of our petulant, overpaid, self-regarding footballers. (And highlights how much we have to pay to see them play and to feed the machine.)

Is it gonna last at all, do you think? Is it gonna make any lasting difference to way we think about footie and the players?

Or will it be completely forgotten once the Olympics are over and the footie season is underway?

Has made something of an impression on me I think. Find myself more drawn to cycling and less to footie, for example.

But then this *is* football we're talking about, in the end. Maybe it's actually the only sport that really matters.

Dunno. Be quite interesting to see what the mood is in a month or two.
