I don't demand that people have to 'like' sport, each to their own.

But shirley, the Olympics reaches out way beyond sporting triumph. Isn't it a demonstration of human dedication, perseverance, passion, determination and personal sacrifice? An example of how hard work achieves results. Shouldn't that be an example to everyone? To celebrate in fellow countrymen's and women's achievements; and to be inspired by their success. Inspiration makes you feel good, no?

Well I read this on Facespace last night, posted by, shall I say, one of my more cynical friends. ‎"It is perfectly fine to be excited about the Games. It is perfectly fine to hope that they might be the best ever. What is not fine is to expect, let alone demand, that everyone share the same joyous psychological space. What is not fine is to label people as miserable traitors because they do not wish to join the hypnotic, semi-deluded mirth others feel."

The above is a quote from this article in the Grauniad. User Posted Link

The London Olympics is a triumph of organisation, and a celebration of the greatest human achievements. It shows our country off at its very best. We all have every right to be a part of it. We should all claim success and feel rightly proud of what's happening right here on our doorstep.

So you have to wonder after several years now of the doom and gloom that has completely submerged this country (credit crunch, job losses, house repossessions, a recession, needless wars, needless deaths, home riots, bankers taking the piss, MPs taking the piss, another recession.. etc etc), what it could possibly take for these cynical, grumpy bloody moaners to ever be vaguely cheerful again.

Well I say f**k 'em. Go drown in your own cesspool of misery and indifference. Thanks to an event that only happens every four years, and has been done bigger and better than ever before right here in our own country, people can feel inspired to aspire again. That puffs my chest out and puts a bloody great smile on my face.
