what he's said we he was merely repeating he had been accused of saying in a sarcastic/incredulous manner. Its a ridiculous defence but at the same time quite clever because i'm not really sure how it could be proven one way or another.
Had he simply claimed he'd not said it then it truly WOULD be game over as the lip reading evidence would have proven him a liar.
