its easy really....

its all down to the "intent".....

for example, my elderly mum, who came to stay last week, really annoyed me by talking about "coloured people" - she honeslty thought "that" was a polite and acceptable term to use "today" - however, as it was in front of my 8 year old I felt it right to correct my mum - advised her "black" was ok, "coloured" was not....

My mum just couldnt understand it.... she had no intention of being racist and was offended when I advised that the term "coloured" is frowned upon today.... I dont think my mum is racist, the term she used is unacceptable, though she cant understand why...
