I am proud of being english

I watched that BBC 'a day through your eyes' programme last night. Some of it was sad and some of it was really refreshing. All of it made me proud to be from this country as it showed an extremely diverse tolerant nation of many different peoples who no matter what their eccentricities were could be accepted.

My wish is that we would celebrate these things. The modern Britain we all live in. Not the Britannia that once ruled the waves, but the United Kingdom where we, for the most part, enjoy freedom and tolerance.

So maybe my reactions to the earlier guardian article inspired some of this, maybe it didn't. What I will say is I am not offended by people showing their pride of whatever part of their history. My family has a long history in Kenya during the colonial era, I know the facts, but I cant help feel a bit of fondness for the days gone by. The glorious life in an exotic land. However, I refuse to say that represents me or anyone else from this country. Just those who were there at that time.

Sadly I think its the boisterous and loud who will always represent our nation in the media. I have a lot of international friends and I am not happy with the way we are represented and viewed overseas and thats because its simply not true. So yes, when I see someone dressed up as a crusading knight it does annoy it. It stimulates opinions and I might write some of them on Wrath. HOWEVER, it doesn't offend me and I would deeply offend me to think people believe I am asserting what people can and cant do. I've been against the PC brigade from day one. I am an ardent libertarian.

I love my country, I love its people and that's why I will try to defend it from a mass misrepresentation.

Sorry if I offended you all by saying I don't like people wearing that particular uniform. I hold no sympathy for those who over reacted and went OTT on the offshoot of my comments but for those of you who are more rational, I hope you will see my point and I hope that wrath can be a more tolerant place in the future.

Blub over.
