I might be the only one that thinks this, but you can't really blame him if that is the

case.

Sure he's gone about it all the wrong way, but he knows he's coming towards the end, he also probably knows he's not going to get a move in 2 years to a biggish team so wants to try get an extra year out of it.

For what its worth, I think we're right to say no to the extra year and if he think he'll be better off somewhere else, then he better hope someone makes a very big offer for him!
