Apologies, I misjudged your intention
I don't really see why a tablet couldn't be used in the way you suggest although they probably don't have the oomph quite yet for that kind of processing; but I would have thought a gesture based interaction would be perfect for CAD at least for reasonably detailed sketches and ideas - absolute precision could be done back at base. Don't you use graphic tablets as it is?
