There's just not precedent for this kind of growth

QPR have always been a poorly supported club - with crowds in the low teens, on average, for the past 20 years or so.

Clubs who have built new stadia can often put 50% on their gates and coupled with sustained top flight football sometimes they can even double their average crowds. However that really is the exception and sooner or later the attendances level out again.

They should start by building something with a 30-35k capacity with potential for cost-effective expansion. However there really are only six to eight clubs who can be fairly sure of not getting relegated and you can be absolutely certain that if gthey went down they would be lucky to fill half of a 45,000 seat stadium.

For their last two home games, Ipswich and Middlesbrough had a combined total of 30,000 empty seats - and their capacities don't even come close to 45,000.
