There is that story about the time the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland played each other in the World Cup qualifiers and Townsend ran out with everyone's favourite sociopath-turned-Ipswich-failure Roy Keane.

Noticing the rather heated atmosphere, Townsend (from Maidstone in Kent) apparently turned round to Keane (from Cork, the most radical town in Eire) and said "What's going on here then, Roy?"
